Depending on the type of rope used, some macramé wall hangings might need time to regain their shape after being shipped. Our cotton rope comes from cotton plants and are 100% natural. To ensure your new macrame art lives a long a happy life, please follow our instructions on proper care and maintenance.

Hanging your macrame

  • Cotton fiber macrame pieces are meant to be used indoors. If you plan on hanging your art outdoors, ensure you protect it from the sun and water exposure.

  • Keep the fibers away from open flame (candles, fireplaces)

  • Wallhangings can be installed with a few nails strategically placed to hold the piece. Another option is to drill plastic anchors at two points into the studs in your wall, then drill longer screws into the anchors. Then wrap gallery wire around the driftwood/dowel/copper pipe with a D-ring securely attached. Now you can hang the D-ring securely onto the head of the screw. This is a great option if you have a piece displayed and you’d like to hide the hardware or if the piece is made on a driftwood branch that is an organic shape and protrudes from the wall where you’d like to anchor it.

  • Plant-hangers may be installed to hang from the ceiling from a hook like this drilled into the ceiling. Another option is hanging them in your window from a curtain-rod or mounted on the wall. If they are too short for your ceiling height, they may be dropped down with a load-bearing rope.

Cleaning your macrame

Dust/dirt accumulation

  • Spot clean with white, damp cloth using a mild detergent

  • Always use cold water to prevent shrinkage

  • Avoid any detergents with bleach

  • To dry, hang in a well ventilated area

Spilled coffee/wine

  • Clean while the stain is fresh

  • Run your item under the cold tap through the back of the stain for 3-5 minutes, and then rub the stain gently

  • Use mild detergent as needed

Be on a lookout for pests

  • Like any other natural fiber (for example, wool or silk) cotton can become a food source for various pests. To prevent this from happening, make sure to remove any dust at least once a month from your macrame by using a white damp cloth and duster.

  • You can iron or use a steamer on your macrame piece to remove any wrinkles caused by washing or shipping
